This Saturday, Nov. 17, take the Gold Line to the East LA Civic Center for the East LA Safe Connections Festival. The free community event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and features safety courses, workshops and live entertainment. East LA residents can also provide input on neighborhood improvements during the community open house.

Metro, in partnership with Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina, LA County Fire Department, California Highway Patrol, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, and LA County Parks and Recreations are sponsoring the East LA Safe Connections Festival on Saturday, November 17, at the East Los Angeles Civic Center. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and can be easily accessed by riding the Metro Gold Line.
This is the first of two community events for the Metro Gold Line Eastside Station Access Project, a Measure R project that will provide $9 million worth of improvements.
During the community open house residents are invited to provide input on neighborhood improvements that will make pedestrian and bicyclist connections between the community and the easternmost Gold Line stations such as Indiana, Maravilla, East LA Civic Center, and Atlantic, more convenient, safe, attractive and enjoyable.
The improvements will be constructed by the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works and consist of creative and sustainable improvements to local streets, sidewalks, bicycle paths and areas surrounding the stations.
Pedestrian improvements are expected to extend within a 1/3 mile radius of the four Metro Gold Line stations, while bicycle improvements will be extended to a one mile radius.
The festival will feature a bike safety course for youngsters, and training in sidewalk CPR and CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) for adults and for the kids a gleaming red fire engine, free face painting, jumpers, and art workshop and also live entertainment.
The public is encouraged to attend. All activities are free. Spanish translation will be provided.
